Our Logo

When a community is unified in one common cause, then there are many benefits to reap. Just a few benefits among the many that a strong community provides are:

  • Strength in numbers
  • A source of guidance and support for its individual members
  • A strong voice that is heard and respected by other communities

Our logo was chosen to reflect the driving force behind the formation of RICMA - a unified community is a strong community.

Perhaps the most prominent component of the RICMA logo is the dome. The particular type of dome that was chosen is known as a geodesic dome. This structure is special in that it is not generally comprised of solid material, but of individual rods. The rod can be a strong component or it can be weak, but in any case there is no stability. A rod alone (no matter how strong) cannot be the whole arrangement in a structure. In this case, each individual rod can be made to symbolize each individual member of the community.

The rods are then joined together to form individual triangles. These triangles are much stronger structures than the individual rods and can be used to support much more external force. Although these formed triangles make a great architectural component, they cannot be used alone to create a structure that can withstand the forces around it. These triangles can be made to symbolize the individual organizations (mini-communities) within Rhode Island and the Muslim world.

When the triangles are joined together, we get a geodesic dome. The dome is one of the stronger structures in the architectural world. It can be self-supporting and stand alone or it can support external forces that are applied to it. This dome can symbolize where we want the Muslim community to be. We would like to see all the small Muslim organizations in Rhode Island (and the world) joined to form one strong, self-supporting, and independent community.

Hopefully the formation of RICMA is one step forward in bringing our vision to reality...
